Joseph Boblick- Artist Statement
“Livin’ in the Street, Mother and Child” is seen by passersby, who may otherwise avoid homeless people asking for work, money, and food. I want viewers to sense the depicted people, instead of a nuisance or statistic.
According to the 2019 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress, on a single night in January 2019, 171,670 people were homeless in families with at least one adult and one child under the age of 18. People homeless as part of a family were 30 percent of the total homeless population. *
A percentage of the artist’s proceeds from sale of “Livin’ in the Street, Mother and Child,” cast sculptures will benefit homeless organizations where presented. My project has the potential to raise awareness of the plight of homelessness, as well as improve the lives of homeless community members.
This plaster casting is intended for interior presentation. Cast concrete is available for outdoor presentation. Bronze casting is available, priced upon request.
